Five Nights At Freddy’s 6 Canceled, Series On Hold

Five Nights At Freddy’s series creator Scott Cawthon has pulled the plug on the development of Five Nights At Freddy’s 6.

In a Steam Community update, Cawthon broke down the message with great explanation behind his decision, including with saying “I fear that I’ve been neglecting other things in my life for the sake of trying to keep up with those mounting expectations.”

He did not go any deeper on his unannounced FnaF 6, but did say that he won’t be giving up on making games, nor is he ready to let go of the franchise he successfully created just yet. A movie based on the first Five Nights At Freddy’s is still in production behind the scenes and he’s also working on a VR game.

Sadly, the response was met with cynicism. Dedicated fans believe that this is a prank with a big “gotcha” waiting to happen. As someone who’s played an incredible RPG that wasn’t related to Five Nights At Freddy’s but developed by the same man, I see no hoax in this.

I mean this is not something out of the ordinary for creatives of any kind. There is such thing of being worn out from being known for one thing only. This guy wants to focus on other things in his life and I can respect that. He’s been rolling out these games every six months to meet the demands of his extremely populated fanbase.

It’s not just game development, a lot of talented folks want to have range in their creative talent, while also being able to focus on other parts of their life. There are folks who will love being known for that one thing forever, but many also want to break free out of repetition.

Yeah, he’s pretty much making millions off of creating entries to this one series and by himself most of the time, but unless if you are him (or say Daniel Craig with playing James Bond as another example), you just aren’t going to get the frustration of sticking to one thing for so long. You should be able to understand where he’s coming from just by reading the response.

I’m not 100% on either developers or consumers, but you guys have had seven Five Nights At Freddy’s games over the course of four years. This guy deserves a break for being one of the nicest and inventive indie game developers out there. I wish Scott the best on whatever lies ahead of him!

Meanwhile, I must spotlight The Desolate Hope, which is free on Steam. This was one of the most underrated RPGs out there, successfully blending three different gameplay styles with a heart-melting story. Those who love classic SNES Role-Playing games should give this a shot, or at least to see what else Scott is capable of doing!:
