SUPERHOT: MIND CONTROL DELETE First Impressions

Remember SUPERHOT? This was an innovative First-Person Shooter where time only moves when you move and you’ll have to figure out how to kill all of the grunts before they get you. It would behave like a strategy game more so than a shooter. I personally liked the game a lot, as you can find in my review!

From there, the team decides to create a spin-off called SUPERHOT: MIND CONTROL DELETE.

I mean, the developers consider this a stand alone expansion, but it might as well be a new entry. The environments are more crisp and at some points realism-like. There’s more particle effects and even live footage of the occurring scene. The whole level design has a huge overhaul, going from a set of challenges to a procedurally-generated rouge-lite.

Each challenge actually works as a set of levels with an upgrade system in certain points of the challenge. There’s even hints at more to come with new throwable objects that either stun or slice foes and having a lore behind SUPERHOT’s world impact in the new story. Otherwise, at least at the time of this write-up, not much has changed.

You still have the same weapons to use and enemy types to kill. In addition to the one shot, one kill tactic, you can HOT SWITCH to a grunt transferring bodies as a default ability. A lot of plans for SUPERHOT’s spin-off/sequel haven’t been implemented yet as the skill upgrades are only more HP so you can keep going for more than one damage and then a health restore option.

These skill upgrades are limited, so nothing is too easy. They’ve got a huge list of content to include in SUPERHOT: MIND CONTROL DELETE, such as a branching story and two playable characters. SUPERHOT’s follow-up plans on getting out of early access by the end of this year. For now, it’s still SUPERHOT and still a blast to play!

I would wait for those new features to arrive though and purchase SUPERHOT in the meantime as MIND CONTROL DELETE will be free to all owners of SUPERHOT once out of Early Access. I assume the game will arrive on consoles later too, now that the loved FPS is a PS4 & Xbox One game as well.

Come back to this site for a final verdict and see if SUPERHOT: MIND CONTROL DELETE is a superior or inferior spin-off to the cult-classic indie everyone loves!
